“ Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.”
Joseph H. Pilates
Incore Pilates works with classical Pilates method as the central part of the training and as the core of holistic body and mind training. You learn through movement. Dialogue and assessment ensure the right progression for you.
In dynamic process, you build your body in a balanced way and without setbacks or overload. To ensure the full benefit of the Pilates method, all Pilates machines/apparatus are used as needed, each of which in different ways stretches, strengthens and balances your body in systematically organized exercises. Cadillac, Spine-corrector, Reformer, Chairs and Barrels are examples of apparatus/machines used. The Apparatus was invented by Joseph H. Pilates and developed specifically for his exercises and method. The apparatus´ unique spring system is designed to provide the right resistance and support in the exercises, so that your internal muscles work optimally and the entire body is trained with concentration and awareness.
The Pilates method is a holistic training concept where you utilize your core strength with elasticity and functionality in exercises that alternately challenge, strengthen, stretch and relieve the body holistically. Through the Pilates method, we accelerate new connections in muscles and fascia, break with inappropriate movement patterns, and regain balance in the body. This also facilitates a mental change.
As a client at Incore Pilates, you will learn to work from your center and your core muscles to build a strong, healthy and balanced body and mind. Without the awareness of your center, you would sense your body in restless and strained incoherent parts. The core muscles bring cohesion and thus freedom in movement. These muscles are also referred to as the “Powerhouse”.
Finding your core is about building and managing one’s power and strength with elasticity and functionality from the center of the body and building awareness in movement. Muscularly, this means that there is a balance between the deep-lying inner muscles and the outer muscles. The deep core muscles in your abdomen, pelvis and along your spine must be able to respond and stabilize when the outer larger muscles perform larger movements with more load and repetition. Structurally, this means that the joints and spine can function at ease with gradually increased mobility and freedom. Mobility and strength of the muscles around the spine are fundamental to the Pilates method. In Pilates training, muscles, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue – and joints regain balance and functionality as designed.
What are you looking for as a client?
The market today offers a wealth of options. We see an increasing misunderstanding of what Pilates is, especially in countries like Denmark, where there has not traditionally been a thorough widespread knowledge of the method.
As a client, it is important not to be misled. For people who are looking for real Pilates training, it can be crucial to know the below listed signs to find the right studio and to get a fundamental start with appropriate movement patterns – habits and proper progression.
The training is tailored to the client
The Pilates method is used in its entirety.
Classical Pilates is characterized by a structured progression that is achieved by immersing yourself in Joseph Pilates’ exercises on the various machines developed by him and passed on through his protégés. The interaction between the choice of exercises, machines/apparatus and order, creates the desired development both physically and mentally.
It is about why, how and when. All of which is determined by where the client is in their development and with their health situation. The training is taught one-on-one or in small groups with an individual focus. It is essential that the instructor has a deep and relevant knowledge of the body, the influence of the nervous system, analysis of movement as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the many hundreds of exercises and sequences that can be practiced on all the various machines/apparatus. All the above-mentioned, to form the right pathway and progression for the individual client. Elements of concentration, control, precision, breathing, flow and centering must be integrated into the class.
A classically trained Pilates instructor spends years and immersion to build a profound knowledge of the Pilates method as a holistic form of exercise and to achieve the necessary understanding of the human body and mind. This is fundamental to work in depth with all kinds of people and every body.
The client adapts to the training
The Pilates method is not used in its entirety or not used at all.
The fitness training includes many people at once in large groups and with many reformers. There is a high pace with a lack of individual correction and a more hectic learning environment.
In this fitness training, only the Reformer is used, and thereby separated from a balanced and complete system. The training is characterized by fitness instructors who come up with exercises themselves and often with a focus choreography. The instructors usually have very little or no knowledge of the Pilates method. The instructors therefore also have insufficient knowledge of how to use the reformer as it was intended and how to utilize spring resistance and load to form a balanced body. Instead of balance and depth, there is a greater focus on exercising external large muscle groups with heavy load. This creates excessive tension in the external muscle groups without the balance and necessary support in the deeper muscles of the body.
Joseph Pilates’ exercises are not used as intended or not used at all and thus there is a lack of immersion and mastery of his specific exercises with necessary individual instruction. The characteristic elements of Pilates as a body-mind method are lost.
Reformer fitness training may have other benefits, but it has nothing to do with Pilates concept, method,- or Pilates training.
With Pilates training you can gain substantial improvements in physical shape and well-being and prevent and recover from physical injuries. More specific benefits of the training include:
-Improved functionality of joints, spine, muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia
– Improved balance and coordination
– A healthy dynamic posture
– Improved lung capacity and circulation
– Improved body awareness and mental focus
